Ching makes a speedy beef stir fry packed with cumin and chilli, topped with spring onion and coriander and served with a wasabi mayo.
Ingredients
For the beef stir fry
400g/14oz beef fillet
2 tbsp groundnut oil
1 tsp Shaoxing rice wine or dry sherry
1 tbsp light soy sauce
pinch sea salt
1 large handful fresh coriander, roughly chopped
1 spring onion, finely sliced
For the wasabi mayonnaise
1 tsp wasabi paste (available from some supermarkets and Asian grocers)
3 tbsp mayonnaise
pinch caster sugar
For the spicy coating
1-2 tbsp ground cumin (to taste)
1-2 tbsp dried chilli flakes (to taste)
1 tsp ground black pepper
½ tsp sea salt
To serve
warm flour tortilla wraps
Method
1. For the beef, prepare the fillet by flattening it with a meat mallet or rolling pin, or cut it in half horizontally. Cut into wafer-thin slices.
2. For the wasabi mayonnaise, mix all of the wasabi mayonnaise ingredients together in a small bowl. Set aside.
3. For the spicy coating, mix all of the coating ingredients together on a plate. Roll the beef slices in the spice mix, then shake off any excess.
4. Heat a wok until smoking and add the groundnut oil, then add the beef and stir-fry for one minute, or until browned. Add the rice wine and season with the soy sauce and a pinch of salt. Remove from the heat and stir in the coriander and spring onion.
5. To serve, wrap the spicy beef in the tortillas and top with the wasabi mayonnaise. Serve immediately.

What kinds of Chinese food are healthiest?

My favorite Chinese foods are also some of the worst choices there are, health-wise (General Tso’s chicken, for instance). What are some good, healthy, low-calorie kinds of Chinese food to try instead?

well you can make your own versions at home instead of deep frying most meats just brown them with a little oil in a sautee pan, and choose mostly veggie and steamed dishes. Being chinese and cooking it at home I personally don’t use that much oil and mostly steam/par boil most veggies or just a quick stir fry.

what should i order in a chinese restaurant?

only dish i’ve tasted of asian cousin is noodles and i really like them. can i order noodles in a chinese restaurant? can i order takoyaki too or is it clearly japanese? any other suggestions? also what kind of sushi would you suggest me to try? i don’t have a problem with spicy dishes unless if it is too hot. a friend of mine tasted beijing duck and she liked it. is it good?

Yes, you can order noodle in Chinese restaurant but what I know is they usually serve stir fried noodles so you may have to request if you want soup noodle.

Peking duck is delicious and also Cantonese duck. Try claypot / hot plate tofu and Kung Bao chicken if they have. Cantonese fried rice, prawn dumplings, sweet & sour pork, spring rolls and lemon chicken are some popular dishes in Chinese restaurant too. Basically Chinese restaurant outside China do not serve really spicy food so even if they stated spicy are just very mild, at least to me who has tried countless times.

Takoyaki is Japanese but since now a days there are a lot of Chinese restaurant "combined" with Japanese cuisine, you may find one which serve both. Takoyaki is actually a street food so you may not get it in the restaurant.
Try sushi with raw fish like salmon / tuna / shrimp / octopus if you do eat raw fish otherwise try grilled eel / inari / tamago (egg) / California maki.

With regards to Chinese cuisine, what is yat? What’s it made out of, and what kind of animal is it?


"Yat" is the Chinese term for "Cat", because of dialects and pronunciation issues they spell and say it this way. For example the menu of the restaurant I use says, "We Delivery", this clearly means that they deliver, however, they cannot express themselves the same way we can due to language issues.

Chinese food tat involves pork meat or other then rice and plants and veggies?

We got the rice,the peppers,the union,carrot,evan the chicken but is that all in chinese food?No pork meat?What i want from you is a chinese food that contains something else than rice or chicken.I am talking about a food that is not soup.Thank you!

Coconut Curry Black Bean Burgers – Thai Style!

1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Thai chile sauce
1 teaspoon yellow curry paste
2 tablespoons coconut milk
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 egg
1 cup Italian bread crumbs
1 (1 pound) package crumbled tofu
1 (12 ounce) package vegetarian burger crumbles

1 cup chunky peanut butter
1 teaspoon Thai chile sauce
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 dash soy sauce (optional)
1 tablespoon canola oil

6 whole wheat hamburger buns
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup shredded cucumber
1 tablespoon chopped green onion
2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro leaves

Directions
1. Blend the black beans, red onion, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon chile sauce, curry paste, coconut milk, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and egg in a food processor until smooth. Scrape the mixture into a large bowl. Fold the bread crumbs and burger crumbles into the mixture. Form the mixture into 6 patties and place on waxed paper. Put in freezer for up to 30 minutes for patties to set.
2. Prepare a grill pan or skillet with cooking spray and place over medium heat. Cook the patties until browned, 4 to 5 minutes per side.
3. Meanwhile, combine the peanut butter, 1 teaspoon chile sauce, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, turmeric, soy sauce, and canola oil in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook and stir until the peanut butter is melted. Reduce heat to low and simmer until hot, 3 to 5 minutes.
4. Arrange patties on bottoms of hamburger buns. Drizzle sauce over each patty; top with carrot, cucumber, green onion, mint, and cilantro. Top with remaining bun halves and serve immediately.

Is there any Chinese restaurant in Ottawa that serves Beijing duck?

There are two, they are called: Royal Buffet , this is located by Hunt Club, the other one is Brother Wu, it is located in Gloucester. They call it Peking Duck on their menu (i double checked too).

What’s the difference between Asian, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese Cuisine?

each came from a different different country(kind of given) and holds a slightly different taste profile. asian is simply a over term of all of these cooking types such as chinese, korean, japanese, and thai. it may also mean a mixture of different flavors from different asian countries. japanese is just the food you would get from japan, normally slightly more mild, and fresh; they may also have flavors with a bit of more sweet, such as teriyaki chicken; but do not go stereotyping. thai is more of a spicy, sour taste(do not stereotype, about this either). chinese food also hold a wide variety of taste, but it’s very hard to clump them into a large taste group. you may have to try a bit more of these foods, and you’ll reconized most of these flavors in these different types of cusine.

Some Chinese dishes that sound healthy are surprisingly fat-laden. These tips will help you avoid diet land mines.

To complete this How-To you will need:

Knowledge of Chinese menu items
Chopsticks
Restraint

Step 1: Get the spring roll

Order the spring roll over the egg roll; it’s often half the calories.

Step 2: Use chopsticks

Use chopsticks if you normally eat with a fork and knife. It may take you longer to eat, giving your brain time to tell your tummy you’re full before you clean your plate.

Tip: Put less sauce on your plate by using a fork or a chopstick to transfer food from a platter instead of the serving spoon.

Step 3: Order the shrimp

Consider a shrimp dish: They’re usually the best bet because the dish is apt to be mostly vegetables. Just make sure the shrimp isn’t breaded and deep-fried. Steamed chicken or whole fish is also a smart choice.

Step 4: Get sauce on the side

When ordering anything with sauce, ask for it on the side.

Step 5: Eschew the "combo" dishes

Avoid dishes with the word “combo” or “house” in the name, which are usually more caloric than a plate with one main ingredient in the title.

Step 6: Avoid lemons and oranges

Avoid entrees with “lemon” and “orange” in the names, like lemon chicken and orange beef. They may sound healthy, but the meat is usually breaded and deep-fried. The same goes for “sweet and sour” dishes.

Tip: Avoid General Tso’s chicken and kung pao chicken; both are loaded with fat and calories. And chow fun is anything but when it comes to your waistline!

Step 7: Assume nothing

Don’t assume the vegetarian plates are low-cal: Eggplant with garlic sauce and deep-fried tofu are loaded with fat and calories. To ensure a healthy vegetable entree, make sure it’s steamed.

Step 8: Fill up on the rice

Dine like the Chinese, who eat one portion of the entree to three portions of steamed — not fried — rice. Take the leftovers home or order fewer dishes than the number of people you’re dining with.

Tip: While brown rice has the same number of calories as white rice, it offers four times the fiber.

Step 9: Steer clear of noodles

Save your pasta fix for Italian night, when you can cover it in nutritious tomato sauce. Chinese restaurant dishes made with noodles, like lo mein, generally offer little but empty calories.
